The Heart of It All: Women, Business & Health at the Morgan Stanley Go Red Event
Walking into the Morgan Stanley Go Red for Women Leadership Event, I felt an immediate sense of power—a room filled with women who are not only building businesses but also shaping industries, leading families, and showing up for their communities. But what struck me most was the shared realization that, despite all we juggle, our health has to come first.
As women, we are so often the heart of our homes, our businesses, and our relationships. We set the rhythm for those around us, pouring energy into our work, our families, and our passions. But here’s the reality: heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. And yet, how often do we actually pause and prioritize our own well-being?
This event was a powerful reminder that we can’t take care of others if we’re running on empty. We need to be proactive—scheduling regular check-ups, tuning into our bodies, and making our health as much of a priority as our next big project. Because the truth is, success in business and fulfillment in life mean nothing if we’re not well enough to experience them.
Finding Balance: How I Prioritize My Health As A Mother and Business Owner
Every week is a balance for me—juggling my young kids' schedules, interior design client meetings, design time, and making space for my own health. Last year, I focused on running and achieved a huge personal milestone by completing my first marathon (read my blog post about my NYC Marathon experience here!). This year, I’m shifting my focus to strength training, mixing in group circuit classes and home workouts. In addition, I aim for one or two hot yoga sessions, a couple of short runs, and an hour of tennis and pickleball each week.
Having scheduled classes and clinics keeps me accountable, and I’ve realized that movement isn’t just about physical health—it sets the tone for my entire day. I feel sharper, more energized, and more present in my work and personal life when I start my mornings with a sweat session, especially when it also includes a social component.
A Call to Action For Ourselves and Each Other!
Hearing from women at the Go Red event who are thriving in their careers while prioritizing their health was a reminder that our well-being isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. This conversation wasn’t just about leadership; it was about leading in our own lives.
So let’s take this as a call to check in on ourselves and each other. Schedule that doctor’s appointment. Take that walk. Find the movement that brings you joy and makes you feel strong. Because when we show up for ourselves, we show up better for everyone else.
