From KPID to Style and Space: A Journey of Growth and Joy

Starting a business is like embarking on an uncharted journey—you have a vision, but the path is filled with uncertainties. When I founded Kelsey Peterson Interior Design (KPID) eight years ago, fresh off years of experience in the interior design industry and a degree from Parsons School of Design, I was both excited and terrified. Leaving the safety of a steady job to start my own firm felt like a leap of faith.

Would I find clients? Could I sustain myself financially? These were the questions that kept me awake at night. Determined to keep my overhead low, I became a one-woman show, designing my own website, logo, and branding. Little did I know that this scrappy approach would mark the beginning of something incredible.

An Interior Design Business Built by Word of Mouth

Over the years, KPID grew beyond my wildest expectations, thanks almost entirely to word of mouth. My clients became my biggest advocates, spreading the word about the work we were doing together. Each project allowed me to refine my personal aesthetic and better understand the value I bring to the table.

However, earlier this year, I had a realization: my website—the digital face of my business—wasn’t keeping up with the caliber of work I was delivering. It was nearly impossible to find on Google, and when someone did stumble upon it, it didn’t reflect the quality or creativity of my projects.

It was time for a change.

The Investment That Changed Everything

For the first time since starting my company, I decided to truly invest in its growth.

I hired an incredibly talented website designer, who then introduced me to a brilliant copy editor. Together, they formed the dream team I didn’t even know I needed. Through thoughtful questions and creative collaboration, they helped me not only reimagine my online presence but also reflect on what my business had become and where I wanted to take it.

One of the most significant decisions to come out of this process was changing the name of the company to Style and Space – Joyful Interiors.

Why the New Name?

The name “Style and Space” captures everything my business is about. Style evokes a sense of beauty and design, while Space speaks to the intent of creating purposeful, transformative environments. The tagline, Joyful Interiors, is inspired by the consistent theme of joy that emerged in client testimonials and my own experiences working with them.

This name isn’t just a title—it’s a promise. It conveys a visual image and an emotional response while clearly communicating what we do: designing spaces that spark joy and elevate lives.

Growth Reflected in the Brand

Seeing the new brand system come to life has been one of the proudest moments of my career. It’s not just a rebranding—it’s a reflection of the personal and professional growth I’ve experienced since becoming a small business owner in 2017.

Style and Space represents a new chapter, but it also honors the journey that began with KPID. It’s a celebration of the challenges, growth, and joy that have brought me to this moment.
